AALC
Access Learning Communities provide students an opportunity to make their University experience memorable and fulfilling in and out of class.
Aggie Access offers a multidisciplinary learning community experience for first-year students in the following degree plans:
• General Academics
• College of Liberal Arts
• College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
• College of Geosciences
• College of Science
AALC investigates four learning outcome areas during the year: Discovery, Responsibility, Diversity, and Community. The learning community experience includes a full-year of cohort classes of 24-25 students in core-curriculum subjects and the AALC seminar, Community Time, peer mentors, small groups, and semester gatherings, an optional living-learning community, and optional spring break travel. Students round out their first year by taking other courses in non-AALC sections.
Sophomore to Senior students participate in the learning communities as mentors to first-year students.
Learning Community Student Experience
Three students share their AALC experience below. Each found that the large campus became smaller for them through AALC, and each customized their first-year to best fit their individual needs.
AALC makes a large campus smaller for first-year students who participate by establishing a cohort base in classes and directing student attention to specific areas in college student development and the transition from high school to the University.
